Metro, formerly known as Metropolitan Service District, is the regional governmental agency for the Oregon portion of the Portland metropolitan area. It is the only directly elected metropolitan planning organization in the United States.

METRO is the branding being applied to a system of existing and emerging light rail and bus rapid transit lines in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Four color-coded lines are currently being contemplated: Blue, Green, Red, and Orange, presenting six separate projects in a more simplified manner. The system was approved by the Metropolitan Council in July 2011, but only one service, the Blue Line, was operating at the time. The branding is expected to be pushed to a greater extent as the Red Line begins regular operations.
