Mathews

The Mathews family is a United States political family prominent throughout the American South in the 18th-20th centuries. Established in Augusta County, Virginia by Ann Archer and John Mathews, its members have served Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and the United States in various positions, such as US Representative, US Consul, Governor, State Supreme Court Chief Justice, State Attorney General, State Senator, and State Delegate, including seven delegates to the Virginia General Assembly.
