Hypothyroidism is an endocrine disorder in which the thyroid gland produces inadequate quantities of the thyroid hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine . The global prevalence of hypothyroidism is estimated to be 2-5% while subclinical hypothyroidism is thought to have a prevalence of 4.0-8.5% worldwide.
