The is a handheld digital pet, created in Japan by Akihiro Yokoi of WiZ and Aki Maita of Bandai. It was first sold by Bandai in 1996 in Japan. As of 2010, over 76 million Tamagotchis have been sold world-wide. Tamagotchi!
is an anime series by Jouji Shimura that airs on TV Tokyo, 7pm Mondays. It is the second Tamagotchi animated series to air in Japan. The anime is based on the handheld digital pet, Tamagotchi. But from the anime series, it is mostly based a newer version of Tamagotchi, the Tamagotchi iD and Tamagotchi iD L, a colored screen Tamagotchi pets based around friendship. Another series followed up with Tamagotchi! Yume Kira Dream, which started on September 3, 2012. After the conclusion of the second series, an upcoming new series called Tamagotchi! Miracle Friends was announced.
