Pakistani English is the group of English language varieties spoken and written in Pakistan. It was first so recognized and designated in 1970s and 1980s.<ref name="Hashmi1978, 1987"></ref> Pakistani English (PE) is slightly different in respect to vocabulary, syntax, accent, spellings of some words and other features. Pakistan has the third largest English-speaking population in the world, with approximately 49% of the Pakistani population being able to communicate in some form of English.
