FALCONIFORMES

Falconiformes

The order Falconiformes is a group of about 290 species of birds that contains the diurnal birds of prey. The Falconiformes have long been thought to represent a natural evolutionary grouping, but three recent studies of their DNA suggest that their similarities are convergent. In each study, falcons are related to songbirds and parrots, and the hawks, eagles, and vultures are closer to woodpeckers and kingfishers.
