Coturnix

Coturnix is a genus of Old World quail, related Francolins and Alectoris Partridges. Coturnix and the aforementioned genera belong to their own monophyletic clade, the Gallusininae, a sub-family within the family Phasianidae. Some authors consider the clade that includes Francolin, Junglefowl, Long-Billed Partridge, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Jungle Bush Quail, Alectoris Partridge, Snowcocks and Coturnix warrant classification in their own family, the Gallusinidae.
