BINDINGOVER

Binding over

Bind over, binding over order or bind over for sentence is a legal term relating to a power exercised by magistrates in England and Wales and in other common law jurisdictions such as Hong Kong. It is related to bail. A person who is bound over can be required to return to court at a later date, to refrain from certain activities for a certain period, to exercise control over a youth guilty of an offence, or other conditions. If the person does not fulfill the conditions, they can be arrested or other penalties may apply. Defendants and on occasion witnesses can be bound over.
